Walks Local to Parkergate...

All these walks start from Parkergate and are written up in some detail in a folder in each holiday cottage:

  1. A short walk down the bridle way to Moss-Side, Mireside and back takes about 45 minutes. Can be muddy but lovely views all the way.

  2. Down to the shores of Bassenthwaite lake via Moss-Side, Broadness, Scarness, Mireside and Parkergate meadows. Takes 1-2 hours depending on how long you linger by the lake.

  3. To St. Bega's church via Moss-Side, Scarness Road, the church, lakeside, Ravonstone and home. About 2 hours easy walking and lots of interest as you go.

  4. Mirehouse and St Bega's church. Another walk along similar routes but returning through Dodd wood and past the Osprey view point. In summer, we are lucky enough to have a pair of breeding ospreys that return each year to breed. You may be lucky enough to see them! Check out the Lake District Osprey Project website for further information.

  5. Dodd summit. An easy climb to a fantastic view about 3 hours walking and reaching 1,500 feet. Most of this walk is in trees so is very good for poor days. The actual summit is very exposed and can be windy but the view makes it all worth while.

  6. Up to the ridge. via High Side, Southerndale, the ridge behind Parkergate, and back via Ravenstone. A good walk giving lovely views of the lake and hills around takes about one and a half hours. On a clear day you can really enjoy an exilarating walk without too much effort and see so much.

  7. Ullock Pike and back by Whitestones and Dodd.
    A continuation of Walk 6

  8. Skiddaw summit continuing from Walk 7.

  9. The chapel beck round via Mireside, Bassenthwaite cross roads, Chapel Beck, Orthwaite road. Another shortish walk from Parkergate around the local meadows. Takes about an hour.

  10. Around Skiddaw.
This is not a demanding walk but offers excellent views and quiet paths.
